XPLOSION RALLY TO KNOCK OFF ALBANY, 95-91

PITTSBURGH, February 21, 2007 – Rob Griffin scored a
game-high 29 points and Lewis Monroe posted a
triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10
assists to help Pittsburgh (4-29) overcome a 15-point deficit and defeat Albany (19-13) in Continental Basketball Association action at the Petersen Events
Center, 95-91.
Trailing by nine in the third quarter, 72-63, the
Xplosion used a 16-2 run to that carried into the
fourth quarter to take a 79-74 lead. Albany responded
to keep the game tight down the stretch, but the Black
and Gold held on for the 95-91 win.
Albany won the first quarter, 29-24, and captured the
second quarter, 29-28, to lead at halftime, 58-52.
The Xplosion’s third quarter surge allowed them to win
the period, 22-16, and tie the game after three
quarters, 74-74. Pittsburgh won the fourth quarter,
21-17 and won five of seven quarter points.
Griffin and Mnroe led the way for Pittsburgh. Eric
Williams also finished with a double-double, tallying
22 points and 11 rebounds.
Chris Sockwell had 22 points and 10 caroms for Albany.
Jamario Moon added 18 and 11 boards.
The Xplosion return to the floor on Friday night when
the Butte Daredevils pay a visit to the Petersen
Events Center. Game time is slated for 7:05 PM.
