SPURLOCK NETS 24, BUT XPLOSION FALL TO MINOT, 122-97

PITTSBURGH, December 9, 2006Janerio Spurlock netted 24 points for Pittsburgh (0-4), but Minot (3-2) played steadily throughout and coasted to a 122-97 victory over the Xplosion in Continental Basketball Association action at Mellon Arena.

Minot sizzled from the floor connecting on 54% of its shots from the field, including 11-18 from three-point range. They also controlled the boards outrebounding Pittsburgh 58-43.

After the Xplosion briefly held an early lead, Minot stormed back to win the opening quarter 28-17. The Skyrockets maintained control and went on to win the first three quarters and finished with 6.5 quarter points, to 0.5 for Pittsburgh.

Spurlock finished 9-16 from the field for a team-high 24 points. Isaac Jefferson added 14 points and nine rebounds and Kevin Pittsnogle chipped in 14 points. Newcomer Shawn Hawkins had 13 points and seven assists.

Des Ferguson led six Skyrockets in double-figures with 31 points. Willie Chandler had 22 and Jitim Young tallied 20. Ray Chandler had a double-double with 15 points and 12 caroms. The Xplosion return to the floor on Monday, December 11 when the Indiana AlleyCats return to Mellon Arena for a 7:05 PM tip.
